Dear Prospective Trailblazer,
This letter is to tell you about the Trailblazers Mentoring Program. We are looking for mature, dependable, and caring students who are willing to share their skills, values, and friendship with children.
The Trailblazer program is a year-long partnership that is currently with Bach, Lawton, Dicken, Eberwhite, and Pattengill elementary schools. It involves carpooling (the school district DOES NOT provide transportation or liability insurance) to the elementary school each day of the week to work individually with an elementary student. In addition, there will be periodic seminars with your site supervisor and/or Pioneer advisor.
The goal of the program is for you to cultivate a sense of community and support for you mentee (elementary student) to increase academic skills and self-esteem through a nurturing relationship. Your role will be that of a trusted tutor and a friend.
This course is a pass/fail course, which involves a year-long commitment. You will earn one general elective credit upon successful completion of this course.

Applicant Responsibilities:
1. Please write why you are interested in being a Trailblazer mentor. You might describe qualities that you possess that you believe would make you an effective mentor. Feel free to describe your experiences with children and/or community service. Please do your best work since this will be part of your application. You will upload a LINK to your essay on the Trailblazer Applicant Form below!
2. Go to mrpackard.com and click on the Trailblazer Home page to complete the Trailblazer Applicant Form. We will use the data you submit to contact you about your application status. Please make sure your answers are accurate and complete.
3. Obtain two adult recommendations (one, or both, must be from a teacher at Pioneer-no parents or relatives). Your references can be handed to Mr. Packard by the recommender or you may have them returned to you in a sealed envelope and you submit them to Mr. Packard in C331 or the counseling office.
4. Submit your application on time!
All applicants that submit their application by the end of the day on March 18th will receive a response within one week!
